Live at the New Vic Theatre

13 MARCH 2018

Members of the town who have come forward with their memories of Maxims will be centre stage at the town’s New Vic theatre on Tuesday 24 April 2018, when their stories are brought to life in an innovative stage production.

The script for the production, Lost & Found at Maxims, is based entirely on the reminiscences of members of the public who came forward in response to the Maxims Live! Campaign: a collaboration between the theatre and state-of-the art care village operator, Belong.

The aim of the campaign was to turn people’s memories of the former Maxims building into a living piece of social history.

Speaking about the project, Sue Moffat, Director of New Vic Borderlines, said: “The performance charts the 17th century building’s continuous role at the heart of the local community, which includes it being Newcastle-under-Lyme’s only pottery, an inn for over 150 years and finally, one of Staffordshire’s most famous nightclubs.

“It’s been a fabulous journey for everyone involved and we’re really excited about seeing the show come alive on stage.”

The show will also be performed in the Belong Heritage Gallery as a promenade version on Tuesday 22 May (show times: 10:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm).

The production is part of a wider heritage project by Belong, part funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which has seen the Grade II listed former Maxims building in Newcastle preserved for posterity and sensitively incorporated into a new £13.5 million care village development.
