Colleagues from Belong Crewe and Belong at Home Wigan are celebrating being recognised for excellence in their fields at the North West Great British Care Awards 2022.
Sharon Haigh, who is a Community Support Worker at Belong at Home Wigan, won the Home Care Worker Award, while Britannia Household at Belong Crewe were acknowledged for excellence in end-of-life care with the receipt of the Palliative Care Award.
The Great British Care Awards are a series of regional events throughout the UK acknowledging the dedication and professionalism of those working in the care sector. Winners from the regional finals will advance to the national awards, which will take place in March 2023.
The winners were chosen amidst tough competition for their exceptional work in their area of care and their positive impact on customers’ lives following a rigorous assessment process, including an interview with a panel of independent judges.
The judges commented: “Sharon epitomises the characteristics of a great carer. She is compassionate, has a fun personality and puts a smile on people’s faces. Sharon really loves her job, and that passion and commitment shines through. I would want Sharon to care for a member of my family!”
About the Britannia Household team, they also said: “[They] go above and beyond to ensure their end-of-life care is the best it can be. They always go the extra mile with knitted butterflies that the resident and family exchange to keep connections even when the loved one has passed and memory boxes full of photos and a signed card from all staff is sent to loved oned after the passing. These little steps make their palliative care exceptional, and much deserving of this accolade.”
Colleagues at Belong Crewe and Belong at Home Wigan were also shortlisted for the Dignity in Care award, the Dementia Care award, the Care Home Activity Organiser award and the Social care nurse award.
Commenting on the award wins, Belong Chief Operating Officer, Sue Goldsmith said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Sharon and the team at Britannia household have been recognised for the positive impact that they have on people’s lives and contributions towards raising the bar of standards of care in the UK at the Great British Care Awards. I wish them the best of luck for the national final in the New Year.”
