Belong held a preview event for local people and professionals interested in finding out more about plans to create the Belong Heritage Gallery and community village at the site of the former Maxims nightclub.

Professionals from the region’s health, social care and culture sectors were invited to view drawings and discuss opportunities to collaborate on the project.

The Heritage Gallery will include displays charting the history of the building and dominant aspects of working life, as well as recreational pursuits in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Belong is collaborating with partner organisations including Borough Museum, Apedale Heritage Centre and the New Vic Theatre, which hosted the event.

The gallery will also include a reminiscence lounge and resources for working with people with dementia, including memory boxes.

Belong villages specialise in supporting people with dementia, and there are plans to develop a dementia centre of excellence at the site in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
